Improving Volunteer Engagement in Nonprofit Healthcare Organizations

Grounded in the conceptual lens of Deci and Ryan’s self-determination theory, strategies nonprofit healthcare leaders use to reduce volunteer turnover were explored this single-case study. The participations included 5 from a single organization Southwestern United States. Data collected using semistructured interviews, internal external organizational documents, publicly available data. Analysis documents data manually coded thematically organized. methodological triangulation process member checking increased reliability interpretation. Using thematic approach, 3 themes emerged: recognition improved turnover, open communication relationship building turnover. findings study may contribute positively social change by providing with enhance operational processes, improve performance. results indicated that who develop engagement could increase success successful work habits among volunteers economic growth communities they serve.
